Ali al-Wardi: Volume 1

My abridged translation of the first volume of Social Glimpses has now been published. I have already started with the second volume (Iraq between 1831 and 1872) and I hope to finish as much of it as possible during the summer.

@ Mr. Khoei

I just wanted to inform you that there exists a German translation of Ali Wardi's books, translated by Ibrahim al-Haydari.

Anon, the English is roughly a third of the Arabic. If you read Arabic you can pick up all 8 books for around $50. There may even be pdf files on the net for free.

gilgamesh, yes and Fuad Baali has translated two of them in English (derasa fi tabi'at al-mojtama' al-iraqi & mantiq ibn khaldun)

Congratulations. This is serious work, and it's an important contribution. I'll be getting a copy soon.

Wonderful! I've been wanting an English translation ever since Abbas and Omar talked about his writing. I'll have to check and see if I can get a copy from Amazon here in the states.

Regards Haydar,

From your experience how well known is Dr. Al-Wardi with in the realm of English or American Sociologists? I ask this as i would like to use a couple of Dr. Wardi's books in my M.A. thesis regarding Iraqi social formation and transformation.
